WATER FOR IRRIGATION IS COMING!

Money for a BOREHOLE has been donated to BOHJ for the Chiguvare Primary School. This will provide fresh water for irrigation of the vegetables to be grown there. It will take time, but with crops to be sold, money can be generated for tuitions and medical supplies. This will also provide better nutrition for the students.

March 2011

3rd CONTAINER HAS SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND SOCCER EQUIPMENT !!!

BOHJ has combined with Hands On Ministries International to bring school supplies and soccer balls and shoes to inner city and rural kids in Zimbabwe. The camp will take place this summer. Backpacks filled with school supplies, a soccer skill camp, and an opportunity to learn of the love of Christ which can transform lives will be offered in Mutare and in rural schools.

KIDS HELPING KIDS DO WHAT THEY LOVE BEST.!!!

.....Because of generous hearts and the spirit of the Soccer Kids at Summit High School and Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, there will be an soccer camp for 60 inner-city kids in Harare, Zimbabwe this June. There will also be pandemonium in dozens of rural schools in Zimbabwe, as balls and equipment will be shared, where the only ball children have had to play with is a bag filled with air or grass.

BOHJ has partnered with Lovers Lane Methodist Church to send a 20 foot container filled with Soccer supplies

  • 140 SOCCER BALLS
  • 97 SHORTS
  • 120 SHIRTS/ JERSEYS
  • 170 PAIRS. OF SOCKS
  • 27 PAIRS OF SHIN GUARDS
  • 20 GYM BAGS
  • 61 PAIRS OF CLEATS
  • 3 PAIRS OF GLOVES

Also, in a portion of the container were over 5,000 pencils and pens, 4000 crayons, rheams of lined paper, 10 boxes of children & Christian books, as well as, math, reading, and science text books, and boxes of clothing sent through Beacon of Hope and Joy.

Truly, this has been a joint endeavor. Thank you to all who've donated supplies: Willie Brown Primary, FUMC Mansfield, Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Wesley Mission Center, Riddle Elementary School in Frisco and the 4-Hers, who helped to count the supplies in each box -YOU'VE INVESTED IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS. The drum and container are scheduled to arrive in June for the camp and to distribute to schools.

BOHJ will be able to deliver the school supplies that were donated to the Chiguvare School through this container project, share the Lord’s goodness with the children, and add to the lovely library that is established at the school.

PICTURES AND WRITE-UP FOR THE ORPHANED CHILDREN !!!

A long day was spent interviewing all of the children to log their birthday, dreams and prayer needs. Pictures were taken while others shared praising the Lord through singing and dance. Appreciation was expressed by the Head Mistress, Mrs. Lillian Chakare to BOHJ for helping their school children to excel. Everyone was so happy.

OUTSTANDING SCHOOL IN THEIR DISTRICT

Chiguvare Primary was recognized by the Minister of Education in Zimbabwe as the outstanding school in their district. A lovely certificate was presented to them. The dedication of the teachers and volunteers, teemed with the support that is given through Beacon of Hope and Joy has made this possible. We have witnessed a transformation in the school during the past three years. There is hope for all of the children.

The next goal is to provide medical care for the simple headaches, colds, and scrapes. Seeing skin infections and pain where it’s so easily remedied with over-the-counter medications makes this a next priority.

June, 2010,

RECYCLE SCHOOL SUPPLIES !!!

Students and faculty from Mansfield, Texas area schools and Riddell Elementary in Frisco are collecting their gently used school supplies to be sent to African students. Pencils, pens, notebook paper, crayons, rulers which might go in the wastebasket will be going to school children in Liberia and Zimbabwe who have rarely used a pencil or paper in their whole school experience.

Willie Brown, Pantego Christian, Kenneth Davis Elementary schools, Aso Low Intermediate, and Legacy High students and faculty are proudly choosing to share their last year’s paper and pencils, with students who have none of their own.

This is a unique program that we hope will spread in its outreach in the coming year. WANT TO HELP WITH THIS PROJECT BY PROMOTING IT IN YOUR SCHOOL NEXT YEAR? Let us know at www.beaconofhopeandjoy.org. Click here for contact information.

UNPACKING THE SECOND CONTAINER of books, school supplies and clothing

The container arrived and BOHJ volunteers in Zimbabwe are busy unpacking and organizing the boxes of books, school supplies and clothing at the BOHJ office for delivery to the Chiguvare Primary school. A great celebration was held in June as a truckload of boxes was unloaded and distributed to orphans. The children who have parents think that being an orphan isn’t so bad , as they are now being well taken care of.

January, 2010

BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS !!!

Over 100 boxes of books were taken to the container in Louisiana. The children’s books are for the new school library at the Chiguvare Primary School in Sanyati. The Christian Resource Library in Harare will receive Bibles, Christian study books, and curriculum. These resources are just not available in Zimbabwe at this time. Shepherd’s Ministries International aided with the shipping of this container. We are so very grateful for this cooperation.

Book donations were organized by the PTA of Willie Brown Elementary school, Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, and First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. The junior/senior high girls from Walnut Ridge Baptist Church held a signing party, writing messages of hope to the children.

School supplies for over 300 students were packed.

Neighborhood groups, from Dallas to Houston, and the Wesley Mission Center donated many bags of clothing and new underwear. Some children shared their toys for the children who have no one to buy toys for them.

The Seeker’s Sunday School class donated money to purchase ten 50 pound bags of rice and five 25 pound bags of beans. BOHJ in Zimbabwe will distribute them to needy families.u

April 2009

Hope Arrives Soon!   A Container of Supplies is Sent !

So quickly prayers were answered! In April 2009 BOHJ sent 135 boxes packed with school supplies (paper, pens, chalk, crayolas), 150 school bags, clothing, shoes, blankets, food, and medicine. Supplies and donations of money to purchase more supplies were collected in only 2 weeks.

The First United Methodist Church of Mansfield Texas donated Christian education and grief materials, as well as clothing from the Wesley Mission Center. The Seeker's Sunday school class members donated funds to purchase school supplies and food. Donations of clothing, books, and loads of school supplies were given by employees from the Hudson Advisors Company of Dallas, TX. Shepherds International Ministries offered room for the boxes on their container going to Zimbabwe.

Thanks go to the volunteers who helped pack the 135 boxes and to those who transported the supplies to the docking location.

We can’t imagine how Big the Gratitude Celebration will be as the container of supplies are distributed to the orphaned children and their grandmothers.

March 2009

Celebration at Sanyati in Appreciation for All That Has Been Given.

March 3rd,2009 Joyce Muchechetere and the board of BOHJ traveled by truck to Sanayti to the Chiguvare elementary school.

All of the orphans came to school on Saturday with their grandmas, school teachers, parent board members from the school, education officers, and people from the surrounding area to show their appreciation for the help given to them.

They had a whole day event. The kids did skits, sang, and danced. A lunch from the little they have was shared.

The kids were gaven shoes and blankets in preparation for winter. The kids’ basic needs are so great: clothing, blankets, food, immunizations, school supplies ( pencils, pens, notebooks, reading books, etc.). YOUR DONATIONS MADE THIS POSSIBLE !!
