In Zimbabwe nature’s beauty abounds in sharp contrast to the devastating conditions that children endure each day. Fighting for their very survival, these precious little ones can only hope for their next meal, wish to be clothed, yearn to attend school, and dream to reach adulthood. In a country deeply scarred by the AIDS epidemic, nearly 1 in every 3 children has been orphaned, leaving them vulnerable to a number of dangers including exploitation, disease, hunger and hopelessness.
In an economy paralyzed by political instability, where 8 of every 10 adults are unemployed it is difficult to see any hope. The AIDS pandemic, droughts, and stressed economy have made it necessary to have external support for the children and widows who suffer the most. Kids are caring for kids. This is not the family that God has designated for us.
